Birthday Gift Baskets - Always An Ideal Gift

No matter how old we are, we enjoy being remembered on that special day of the year that celebrates the day we were born! Birthdays are a time to recognize special people in our lives with joyous celebration

Birthday Gift Baskets - The Ideal Gift For Everyone!

No matter how old we are, we enjoy being remembered on that special day of the year that celebrates the day we were born! Birthdays are a time to recognize special people in our lives with joyous celebration. It is a time-honored tradition to pay tribute the birthday gal or guy with a mouth-watering cake decorated with sugar-laden frosting sculptures and a candle representing every year of their life on earth! We bestow on them gifts and cards filled with birthday verses and best wishes for many more birthdays to come. Birthdays are just plain fun!

Typically, the most difficult part of the birthday celebration is deciding what to buy the recipient. After all, what do you buy for someone who has it all? Admit it - every year it becomes more difficult to find the "perfect" gift for your mom, dad, sibling, husband, and even the kids in your family. How much time do you spend thinking about it and ultimately browsing through department stores without a clue?

Birthday gift baskets are an excellent choice for the birthday gal or guy at any age - they are virtually fail-proof and always a big hit with the recipient. The question may come to mind, "What are the perfect ingredients for a gift basket?" That will vary from one individual to the next. The great thing about birthday gift baskets is that they can be built for children and adults of any age - and based on their unique interests and likes. The following ideas may help you in selecting a birthday gift basket for everyone on your list:

Women

You can't ever go wrong with a birthday basket designed for every special woman in your life, whether it is your mom, grandmom, wife, sister, or daughter. Women love to be pampered. A pampering basket may include bath and body products, a loofah, a fragrant candle, an inspirational book, and a CD of soothing sounds of nature. The woman who enjoys gardening would welcome a basket containing a garden trowel, gloves, decorative garden picks, seeds, and hand lotion packed in a decorative flower pot. For the tea lover, a perfect basket would consist of flavored teas, biscotti, a tea infuser, and a china tea pot.

Men

Men are not as hard to please as you think - and a birthday gift basket is a perfect solution for that hard-to-buy for dad, husband, brother, grandfather, son, or boss! If he is your handyman, fill the basket with small tools and gadgets he is always mentioning he needs but never buys. Don't forget to add some treats to round out the basket - after all, you will want to satisfy that sweet tooth. Consider a sports-oriented theme for this birthday gift basket. There are great options out there for sports enthusiasts in every category. If you are thinking about something with a little more style, a bottle of cognac, his favorite cigars, and gourmet treats may appeal to him - packaged in a brown derby!

Kids

The sky is the limit when selecting a birthday gift basket for a kid of any age. Stick to items that are age-specific from babies through teens. Consider items that you know the child likes. You can stick with a specific theme or create a hodge-podge of items that you know will bring hours of enjoyment to a child. Ideas for an assortment of items are a small stuffed animal, books based on age and interest, healthy snacks, travel-size games, small puzzles, and flavored beverages for kids. Consider containers they can reuse.

If you just do not know what items to select, consider a gourmet food basket that usually satisfies everyone's pallet - even the most hard to please! There is no limit on what you can include in a birthday gift basket, but always consider the recipient when making a gift basket purchase and ask yourself whether or not he or she will like the birthday gift basket you select!

Gift Cards As Gifts

January’s retail sales strength is reflected in people redeeming their Christmas gift cards. The average adult received 3.2 gift cards this holiday season, up from 2.5 gift cards last year. Gift cards are more popular and this also moves spending into January. Consumers are also interested in receiving gift cards at other times that just at Christmas.

A survey by Deloitte & Touche USA found:

80% of adults received at least one gift card to an apparel or food store

33% received at least one gift card to a restaurant

14% received one gift card to a mall or shopping center

10% received a gift card that could be used at a variety of stores (e.g., an American Express gift card)

5% received at least one for a personal service such as a manicure or massage

5% received at least one gift card for an Internet site (e.g., ebay, Amazon)

Price ranges for gift cards ranged from $78 for an American Express card, while the lowest was for a $32 restaurant card. Bank gift cards are more likely to be used in January. Nearly 74% of these gift cards have been redeemed or partially redeemed by the end of January.

People were more likely to buy full price retail items with their gift cards. Many analysts believe the “gift” aspect allows consumers to treat themselves to new full-priced merchandise.

Retailers also benefit when consumers redeem a gift card, nearly 62% spend more than the face value of the card. This is an opportunity for retailers to increase sales, as sales cannot be reported until the gift card is redeemed.

Consumers also expressed an interest in receiving gift cards for other holidays. For example, a gift card for an “experience” is widely received as a result of people being time-pressed. Getting a gift card for a trip to a restaurant or massage or even a weekend getaway seems to be a trend people are enjoying.

Teens enjoy gift cards because they are more eager to shop with their friends and are more apt to redeem their cards quicker than adults. The survey showed teens redeemed 76% of their gift cards vs. 61% of adults.

Gift cards keep on giving, after the holidays, especially for retailers. Gift cards are here to stay. Consumers enjoy using them and retailers enjoy getting them. Gift cards are an appropriate gift for all occasions.

Shopping For Gifts Online

Did you know that shoppers buying online gifts last year generated $301 billion revenue? Now that shopping over the internet has become quite common, people are becoming more trusting of online merchants and using their credit cards online.

Some great reasons to shop online rather than going to a store:

Save Money!
I always seem to save money when buying my gifts online. Often, stores have deals that are only available online and things tend to be cheaper or discounted more. When selling online, merchants do not have as high of an overhead as they do with an actual location.

Save Time!
We work long hours and in addition to work, have other things going on that we have to ensure get done. Many go to school and work. Our time is very limited and precious to us, finding a gift online saves you the time of driving to the store, dealing with crowds of people and waiting to checkout. Simply browse their inventory online and click buy, much easier! Also, most merchants will deliver the item directly to whomever your purchasing it for.

A larger variety of choices!
When shopping online, you can always find quality, quantity and variety. Your local shops may not stock certain items that are available to you online. Not only that, if one merchant doesn't have what your looking for, there are many others that do. With only a few clicks of a mouse you can now browse an entirely different store.

Greater options for niche gifts:
Many mom and pop stores are opening up online now that is becoming increasingly easy to do so. While you generally only had maybe one or two niche shops in town to choose from, now you can look over tons of unique and creative shops.

Easier to send and receive:
Sending a gift to a friend or loved one overseas? Now you don't have to find the right sized box, worry about packing it right then lugging it to the post office where you pay a hefty fee for sending it. Shopping online gives you the ability to send gifts almost anywhere in the world. When sending something overseas, you are likely to pay an additional fee but it is generally cheaper than you would pay doing it yourself, and less hassle.

Looking for great online gifts or deals when shopping online? Keep following this blog! I keep you updated with great coupons and excellent gift ideas. Or, visit one of my favorite merchants listed on the right.

National Family Day!

National Family Day is Monday, February 16th! This is mainly a Canadian holiday, but there is no reason why one should not take the opportunity to honor their family during this time. It's a great excuse to do something fun with our loved ones!

Officially there is no federally-established Family Day, although such a date is established by some provinces as a statutory holiday on the third Monday each February thereby coinciding with the US holiday Presidents Day.

Family games are a great way to spend an evening on this day. Order in some pizza or make a bunch of spaghetti with giant meatballs. Pull out those board games like scrabble, monopoly or pictionary...or create your own fun game!

Valentines Day Movies

I just read a post from Spiral Reverie, a witty up and coming Author who has some great reviews on two movies that are great for cuddling up at home and watching on Valentines. Don't worry guys, he suggests that you will like it just as well too ;) Check it out and watch them with a nice home cooked Valentines meal. Trust me guys, girls love a guy who cooks and watches romantic movies with them.

For you girls, this would be a great movie the both of you can enjoy. If your guy is an anti-chick flick type, you might have to promise to watch Die Hard with him to make him try it out. Either way, he will appreciate the return gesture.

Last Last Minute Romantic Gifts

With Valentines Day a few days away, I thought I would write something about helping you find those last minute gifts out there. Of course, planning out your gift early is the best option. You get lots of time to think about the ideal gift, get the shopping out of the way and don’t have to think about it again until the day comes to give your gift.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case and many of us with busy lives get wrapped up in work and other life requirements. Don’t fret though, there are some last minute gifts and ideas that could save you from the doghouse this holiday.

A romantic dinner for two at an upscale restaurant is always a nice idea…but if you didn’t make reservations in advance, it is highly unlikely you will get any this close to the big day. Another idea? Cook a nice meal at home, get some candles, your valentine’s favorite bottle of wine and cook up a nice meal you both can share in the privacy of your own home.

A great idea to go along with the home cooked romance is a CD of romantic music to listen to during the dinner. Your song choices should reflect your feelings toward the other person, or be a play list of their favorite songs. You can also pick up a romantic movie to pop in the dvd player to pop in after your dinner and relax.

Still feel like you need a gift to present to your loved one? Here are some options which can always be picked up quite easily at the last minute.

Flowers

Perfume

Jewelry

Gift Certificates

You can sit down with your loved one and book a nice romantic get-a-way for two. Use the excuse that you wanted to make sure they have dates available and you wanted to plan it together, so they will understand why they don’t have a gift now.

If all else fails, after your dinner or movie, give your valentine a long massage. These are appreciated and shows that you care!

Creative Things To Write In A Valentines Day Card

Are you the type of person who gets stuck when it comes to what to write in a card? Don't worry, you're not alone. Many of us have lots of thoughts of what to write in our head, but as soon as the pen hits the paper, your mind goes blank.

Here are some suggestions you can use this holiday to make your card remembered.

First, it is always a good idea to have a nice card. If you haven't picked one up Pear Tree Greetings offers many interesting and unique greeting cards.

If you already have a card, or plan on getting one from your local grocery store. Here are some tips to spark your creativity.

Pick up a pack of matches. You can usually find these for free at a nearby gas station. Tape or glue the patches inside the card and write "There are definitely sparks between us!" or "You light my fire". A little cheesy but it will make them grin and the originality will be appreciated.

Another sweet one liner, is reminding her or him of the fact that you care about them regardless of a holiday telling them you should Write something like "I don't need a holiday to show you I love you" You can replace "Love you with care/care about you" depending on your circumstances.

Many people stumble of the signature line. Do you write "I love you", "love", "sincerely" or....

If you get stuck on whether or not to write 'I love you', then don't. You are obviously uncomfortable with using that term in the early stages of your relationship, or haven't officially said the "L Word" yet. If this is the case, skip it. It makes you uncomfortable, it might make the situation awkward.

Some great signatures without using the infamous "L" word are:

Warm wishes
Thinking of you
Glad to be with someone so great
You're valentine/any nicknames you have for each other

If you are stuck on content for the card, famous quotes are always nice. Especially if they are well thought out. If you know his/her favorite authors, try searching for quotes by them. You can also use meaningful lyrics from songs they like. Then, each time they hear the song they will remember your card.

Another original idea is instead of writing something, doodle a small picture. Even if you have no artistic skill, and draw stick figures this can be incredibly sweet and cute. You can draw a picture of you both together, watching the sunset, holding a heart, a teddy bear or a number of things. This is a really thoughtful way to get your feelings across without actually writing or saying them.

Valentines Gifts For A New Girlfriend

It is often very difficult to buy the right gifts for Valentines Day. For instance, what if you just started dating, and don't know them that well? Is it weird to get them a present? Will they be insulted if you dont get them a present? Here is some advice to help you with the V-Day present conundrum.

Valentines gifts, like all gifts, should make the receiver feel special. This of course, is easier said than done. If you know the recipient and have been together a while, this will come a bit easier to you since you are intimately aware of their likes and dislikes.

For people you don't know well yet, this is where shopping becomes more difficult. You want to get them something small and thoughtful, anything more can be seen as creepy this early in a relationship. If you overwhelm them, no matter how nice you think it may be, it may make them feel bad they didn't do the same for you. Not only that, but chances are likely they will be a little put off by the extravagant gift this early in the commitment stage.

Here are some simple, but sweet idea's for this situation.

Of course, if you just started dating and don't know her well. The best bet would be something more generic, but thoughtful, like flowers. 1-800-FLOWERS.COM has a good selection that you can look through to find something that will be appealing to her sense of style, or what you know of it.

Chocolate is another popular Valentines Day gift, its simple, romantic and doesn't say too much. You can make it unique by adding your own note with it, something like "These chocolates could never be as sweet as you". Your local supermarket is great for finding sweet chocolates such as Kisses and Chocolate Gift Boxes, but those tend to look like you ran out of ideas and ran to the closest store on your way over. I suggest going with specialty chocolates, but if you don't have the time or the money, find a varied selection of chocolates at your local store. This way, it will show you put some thought into the types of chocolate she might like.

Some suggestions on specialty chocolates:

Ghirardelli ® Chocolate offers a great selection of chocolates bars, small chocolates, drinks and more.

Nirvana Chocolates has an extensive collection of handcrafted Belgian chocolates.

Chocolate Source offers a great selection of gourmet chocolates from around the world.

Another classic romantic idea, not often done anymore are picnics. Unfortunately, February isn't the greatest time to have a picnic; but that doesn't mean you can't do something thoughtful with this idea. This idea is not only classic, its low cost and unique. The idea is to make a picnic basket, with foods that will last for awhile, usually the little wrapped cheese, sausages and crackers. Put some chocolate in there as well. If she is a wine drinker, find a decent bottle of wine to put in the center of the basket, and lay the picnic treats around it. If you can, find a thin comfortable blanket to include so you won't have to sit on the ground. Then, give her this themed basket with a note that says something like "I would like to spend sometime in a beautiful place and learn more about you, save this for a nice day and I would love to take you on a picnic".

If all else fails, a gift card to one of her favorite merchants and a nice card is a sweet but simple gift.

The trick to buying gifts is, to be comfortable enough with yourself to stand out from the crowd. Don't go overboard, but don't be afraid to do something unique and original. It is appreciated, memorable and goes a long way.

How To Shop For A Woman

In my opinion, women are generally easy to shop for. However, it's almost too easy. Sometimes, I have so many ideas I don't know which one to go with! This can make a lot of shoppers intimidated to buy gifts. Here are some tips for shopping for women.

Whether or not the intended recipient is your girlfriend, wife, friend or family member, you have to know their personal interests well enough to pick out a few of their likes and dislikes. It is important to remember that everyone is unique. So, while gifts like roses, chocolates and stuffed bears are always appreciated, they are not very personalized.

When gifts are not personalized or well thought out, they can be disappointing to the receiver. She might think that you don't know her well enough to pick out something more similar to her interests, or you were in a hurry and just did the usual. Remember though, sometimes what she wants may fall under that stereotype. So, keep your eyes and your ears open for hints.

Some good advice is knowing what types of products she is interested in and owns. Sometimes, it is a good idea to get her a product she uses on a regular basis, such as her favorite perfume. Sure she already has some, but these need to be restocked and thought of in advance. You will be saving her some hassle and show her you know her well at the same time. Of course this doesn't work with all products, it is a bad idea to get her two identical shirts for instance.

I recommend staying away from clothes completely. Clothes sizes change often, and it is hard to know the appropriate size. While you could take your best guess, it may turn out wrong and if so, she may be insulted. If she likes clothes and you want to go that route, consider gift cards to her favorite clothing stores.

Next tip, ask for help! If you are shopping and confused about a product, ask a sales representative to help you. Even some other women shopping nearby could give you valuable advice. In the end, it never hurts to ask!

Some guys find it hard to shop for a woman because they feel uncomfortable in some of the stores or areas of stores they would be purchasing the gift from. If this is the case, shop online in advance. Have it delivered right to your door and you don't have to wander around a mall.

In the end, always be on the lookout for hints, reactions to products she sees, and keep her style and personality in mind when shopping. If you do end up going with something generic, remember to personalize it in some way. Write a heartfelt message in a card to go with it and wrap it in paper of her favorite color.

How To Shop For A Guy.

Women finding it hard to shop? Yes, its true. Quite often one of the hardest things for us to shop for is gifts for a man. I personally think that the difficulty arises because guys are (generally) not very talkative about things they would like... except for the expensive sports cars out of our price range! We generally have a good idea of the expensive things they would like, and a general idea of other products they would be interested in, such as tools, but not a lot of knowledge about which one of those products would be useful to the guy.

To help with this dilemma, I have compiled a list of tips to help you shop for your guy.

Most women tend to give subtle hints about things they would like year around. It may sound sexist, but its true! It’s just the way we are. Guys on the other hand, tend to be more closed about these things, but on the other hand, are much more open and honest when being asked directly.

Simple tip 1: Come out and ask him directly what kinds of gifts he would like. He will either tell you that you don’t have to get him anything (grr!) Or, he will immediately tell you his thoughts. If he goes for the first option, well, then your in the same place you started and it didn’t hurt to ask!

If you want to be more nonchalant about it, mention that his birthday is coming up. Perhaps joke around and say “Your birthday is coming up…too bad I can’t afford to get you that Porsche you’ve always wanted.” Chances are, he will laugh and offer some alternatives.

Simple Tip #2: Watch him at the mall. Generally, guys don’t go to the mall unless it is for something they need. However, they will generally stop and check a product out if it catches their interests. Keep your eyes open and watch carefully to see if he lingers over products or stops quickly to check the price of something.

Simple Tip #3: Think about his style and personality. Is he a sports fan? Chances are his gift interests would be in the sports area. Is he more of the computer nerd type? Check out the latest gadgets and computer accessories.

Simple Tip #4: Basic gifts. Generally, guys don’t mind getting things they need as gifts. Many women would find it insulting if you bought her a new toaster to replace the old one, but guys appreciate gifts they can use. If you notice your guys slacks are worn out, check the size and grab him some new ones. A gift certificate to a clothing store would also work well.

Simple Tip #5: Calculate cost with usefulness. While he may appreciate a decorative gift that shows off his interest or style, if it is very expensive your best bet may be to go with something more personalized and sentimental. Why spend a lot of money on something that will just gather dust?

Think of something that is meaningful to him and useful. If your guy is into sailing, find him a compass with his initials engraved on it. While compasses aren’t used often, he would have fun using it on the boat, and appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gift.

As always, if all else fails. Let me know and I will work with you to come up with some thoughtful gifts within your budget and time-frames. You can use the link to the right of my blog to e-mail me directly.
